SNAP to Attention at WSCAH

The recent federal government shutdown and the suspension of funding to SNAP — the program that feeds almost 42 million Americans — was a particular challenge to our client, the West Side Campaign Against Hunger. But WSCAH rose to the occasion, and with help from Momentum, the news noticed.

Since shortly before Halloween, WSCAH has appeared in 31 stories or broadcast segments. Several were picked up by national services like Yahoo! News and MSN, and a news conference on the issue was covered by Spanish-speaking broadcast outlets.

Thanks to extra pickups and reprints, the coverage reached a potential audience of more than 480 million people.

Thank you to WSCAH for its work, which is more vital than ever right now, and we’re glad this organization is getting the attention it deserves.

Put a Stamp on it

It’s that time of year when those of us with grandmothers, real estate agents and friends we’ve forgotten about start to get something unusual at our homes: mail. Envelopes with our names on them, written with a real pen. It’s a time of year to reflect on the marvel that is the postal system.

And what a marvel it is. It is a vast and complex organization whose sole purpose is to get physical items from one place to another quickly and reliably, and despite jokes at its expense, it almost always succeeds. Here in the United States, the postal system — along with bifocal glasses, rudimentary knowledge of electricity and diplomacy — is yet another legacy of Benjamin Franklin, the nation’s first postmaster general.

Unlike private carriers like UPS and FedEx, the postal service is required by law to reach everyone, no matter how remote. It is one of the few services that touches every American. So don’t forget to send Grandma a card.

Last month, we shared some of the pets of Momentum. Here are some of our little humans, because who isn’t into cuddly little things?

Post with a Purpose

Senior Social Media Strategist Davin Turkewitz advises that there can be too much of a good thing when it comes to posting on social media. He explains:

Create a simple posting schedule (for example, three times per week) and stick to it. Consistency builds trust and keeps your content in front of followers regularly. But don’t post too much! The more posts your followers ignore, the lower on their scroll your future posts will appear.
